Hello,
Nice to meet you, I’m Irene, the maker and curator behind KOEL HOUSE. Alongside publishing KOEL Magazine, I’ve spent years surrounded by yarn, fiber, and the people who work with it. Over time, being that close to making made it feel inevitable to create my own work, to move from observing and curating to working with my hands.
KOEL HOUSE is a place for the felted work I make by hand. Woven wall hangings are on their way too. Slowly, the idea is to open this up to a small, carefully chosen selection of fiber and textile art by makers I genuinely love from around the world.
I work slowly and intuitively, with wool as my main material. I like to let it do most of the talking. The pieces that come out of that process are meant to bring warmth, texture, and a quiet, grounding feeling into a space. Nothing loud. Nothing rushed.
This really is just the beginning. The long-term dream is a physical gallery, either in Dubai or Portugal (or both 🙂), a place where fiber art, stories, and people can meet in real life.
Have a question? Feel free to email me. I’m always happy to talk wool and collaboration...
With a background in design, publishing, and craft, I care deeply about composition, material, and thoughtful making.
Warmly, Irene Hoofs
